Sports aficionados can walk the greens and tee off with some of their favourite local heroes at a family golf day at Diggers Rest next month.

Diggers Rest Family Golf Day organisers say the March 5 event, at Macedon’s Lawson Lodge, will include such sporting heroes as Diggers Rest netballer Stephanie Barnes and former AFL player Taylor Hine.

The annual Diggers Rest Football Netball Club event will be sponsored this year by Avid Property Group, developers of the town’s Bloomdale estate.

Hine said he hopes participants bring their A-game along for the day’s competition.

“It’s great to get the Diggers Rest community together for a fun-packed day for all the family,” he said.

“No doubt we’ll see some fierce competition out on the greens given the amazing prizes on offer, including a private golf lesson with PGA golf pro Mark Jackson.”

Diggers Rest club vice president Chris Payne said a full day of activities and entertainment has been planned.

“Guests can enjoy a round of golf or simply soak up the atmosphere over lunch,” he said.

“There will be a range of competitions active on the day, including a longest drive contest and nearest-to-pin swing-off.”

Tickets are $60 and include a game of golf, lunch and transport to Lawson Lodge from Diggers Rest football ground. Children’s admission is $20.
