One Logan community has mastered its old-fashioned neighbourly approach to creating community ties, with more than 350 residents coming together to celebrate Neighbour Day on Saturday 22 March.
Covella by AVID Property Group (AVID) and Greenfields Development Company (Greenfields) hosted its fifth annual Long Table Dinner to mark the national neighbourly celebration, bringing together neighbours for an evening of community comradery, buffet-style food, live music and entertainment.
Chairman of the joint venture with Greenfields, AVID Executive General Manager Bruce Harper said the local tradition was a pillar of the community and an annual opportunity to reaffirm the ties between neighbours both new and old.
“With such a diverse population calling Covella home, the Long Table Dinner gives neighbours a chance to come together in celebration of the one thing each and every one of them have in common – a love for where they live,” Mr Harper said.
“Amidst the busyness of life, this annual event is a chance for our residents to take pause and make the time to get to know their neighbours – fostering a sense of social connection and inclusion that lays down the legacy for a connected community for years to come.
“This year’s event was another great opportunity particularly for new neighbours to get to know their community, nurturing genuine social connections between our residents who otherwise may feel isolated in a growing new neighbourhood.”
Having lived in the community since moving to Covella from an inner-city Brisbane rental in early 2023, resident Yuliya Vlasenko said Covella was the perfect place for her small family.
“Our small family loves living in Covella – we’ve had the pleasure of meeting wonderful people during our daily dog walks, visits to the dog park, and fitness sessions,” Ms Vlasenko said.
“This year’s Long Table Dinner was a delightful experience.
“My parents arrived in Australia on the very same day of the dinner, and they felt so warmly welcomed by this amazing community.”
To facilitate interactions between neighbours, as well as the free catered buffet residents were encouraged to bring a plate of their favourite dish to share with neighbours, celebrating the cuisines from the wide range of cultural backgrounds who have chosen to buy a home at Covella.
Developer AVID holds a Neighbours Every Day ‘Very Neighbourly Organisation’ accreditation, reflecting its commitment to creating a space where residents feel safe, connected and nurtured.
The Neighbour Day Event is part of Covella’s Community Engagement and Events Program, an ongoing initiative that allows residents to participate in weekly fitness classes, educational children’s groups, events in the local parks and dog parks, and festive hamper giveaways.
