Local Toy Library Welcomes Community Grant

A residential developer behind the Covella master-planned community in Greenbank, has announced Brisbane South Toy Library as one of the deserving recipients of its 2024 Community Sponsorship and Grants Program.
Covella by AVID Property Group (AVID) and Greenfields Development Company (Greenfields) are pleased to support the organisation’s purchase of a number of quality dolls’ houses – each showcasing different designs – for the toy library to loan in the broader community.
Toy coordinator, volunteer of The Brisbane South Toy Library, Robyn Davis said the library was pleased to partner with Covella and welcomed residents to join in and enjoy the great number of social, financial and environmental benefits.
“We aim for quality resources and toys which can only be purchased with community support, and this welcomed partnership with Covella allows us to purchase new doll houses from established, proven brands,” Ms Davis said.
“Quality resources are more sustainable for our community and sharing them through the toy library benefits everyone, including families in Covella.”
The volunteer-run toy library provides members the opportunity to borrow a selection of quality toys, games and play resources as well as party hire including outdoor family games, children’s ride-ons, tables and chairs.
“Our service reduces financial burden on families and unwanted toys from going to landfill – instead they can be used again and again which perfectly aligns with our motto of ‘borrow, play, return, repeat’ at a minimal expense,” Ms Davis added.
“Covella is all about family, community connection and the environment which is why this partnership is an easy fit.”
Brisbane South Toy Library is made up of more than 2000 toys with 25 new toys added per month for 210 member families.
“As the largest toy library in South East Queensland we are in a position to support the development of more toy libraries to benefit more communities,” Ms Davis said.
“It would be great to see every community have a toy library and have it recognised as an essential service like a book library.”
Chairman of the joint venture with Greenfields, AVID Executive General Manager Bruce Harper said although this is the first year, they had supported the library, it was the second year the community had offered the grants program, which was designed to help the Greenbank community thrive.
“The Sponsorships and Grants program is about supporting local growth and regional sustainability, through new initiatives, events and equipment for groups and charities,” Mr Harper said.
“There were so many notable applications submitted for this year’s grants program, and it’s an absolute privilege to assist the Brisbane South Toy Library with the purchase of new, quality doll houses for their expanding service helping so many families.”
Covella’s 2024 Community Sponsorship and Grant recipients also included The Greenbank Scout Group. The grant funds will go towards updating equipment used for adventures activity, including radios, a spot emergency location device, compasses, and a defibrillator.
