Move Over #gardentok : Chisholm Neighbourhood Jumps on Gardening Trend
August 8, 2024 | IN Media Release and News | BY AVID | 3 min read
With over 18 million gardening enthusiasts worldwide and the #gardentok trend sweeping the internet and amassing over 3.6 billion views, one neighbourhood in Chisholm is well ahead of the trend having laid their gardening roots years ago with no signs of slowing.
According to AVID NSW Project Director Danny Boubli, Waterford by AVID Property Group, a masterplanned community in Chisholm, has always been a hub for green thumbs.
“A communal vegetable garden was established when we first launched, followed by an annual gardening competition, and then last year a special educational workshop for our residents from gardening icon Jason Hodges, so embracing the outdoors has long been at the core of the Waterford community.”
Thornton local Rebecca Dawber first moved to the Waterford neighbourhood in 2017 along with her husband and two children building their dream home and garden in the community.
“One of the things I love most about the community is the general pride people have in their gardens and yards. My husband has always been the main gardener in our household, and he helps transform my vision into a reality – we’re about to plant a potted magnolia as a feature in honour of my late mother.”
Ms Dawber attended the private gardening workshop with Jason Hodges alongside over 70 other residents, leaving with garden design inspiration and expert tips.
“It was a great event, I loved the community spirit that was created, and the information was invaluable, particularly as my husband and I started planning our new garden.
“Our front garden is being redesigned, but in the backyard, we’ve created a cottage/Mediterranean vibe – not too many flowers but plenty of olives, citrus, bougainvillea, lavender, and hydrangeas. I find gardening therapeutic and great exercise, it’s always exciting to see my growing plants bloom,” Ms Dawber said.
Mr Boubli said Waterford’s masterplan was meticulously designed to prioritise and highlight green spaces and provide residents with the opportunity to get involved in community activities, such as tending to the shared garden beds.
“It’s wonderful to see the care residents take in their own gardens but we also like to ensure this fantastic hobby brings our residents together in our shared spaces as well.
“We’re currently looking for even more volunteers to redesign the communal garden beds and we’re excited to see what our creative community does with it.”
