Officer football clubs awarded grant to kick goals in the new sporting season

Local football clubs are gearing up to kick off the season with upgraded facilities thanks to sponsorship from AVID Property Group’s (AVID) Hillstowe community as part of its 2021 Community Sponsorship and Grants Program.

The Officer Kangaroos Junior Football Club and Officer Senior Football Club will receive funding towards sports precinct and amenity upgrades for the teams.

Officer Kangaroos Junior Football Club President Shayne Honey said the full sponsorship will go towards a new LED scoreboard for the sporting facilities at the Western Oval on Starling Road Reserve which are used by the club, in conjunction with the Officer Cricket Club.

“Everyone is happier when they are able to use modern facilities; as a tenant of the Western Oval it’s one of our responsibilities to contribute to the investment in the amenities, complementing our investment in development of our players and coaches,” Mr Honey said.

“We are extremely grateful that we have been selected as a recipient for the Hillstowe Community Grant.

“Aside from player fees, sponsorship is our highest revenue item and is vitally important to ensuring that we can keep our playing fees down.

“The more accessible we can make playing footy, the more kids will be able to play to keep fit, improve their social skills and build friendships for life – it’s also a great way for parents and supporters to make new friends.

AVID General Manager Victoria Peter Vlitas said sponsorships play an important role in the community and he was glad to be able to support local groups.

“Our Connect grants help support local initiatives and we always receive worthy applications from those needing more support.

“We are excited to be able to award grants to both The Officer Kangaroos Junior Football Club and Officer Senior Football club to help them in their continued efforts to provide quality and professionalism to their teams and prepare for the 2021 football season.

“With many families expected to find a home at our community we’re sure that many Hillstowe kids will be joining the local clubs and that they’ll love the new facilities.

Officer Senior Football Club is the only Senior Football Club in the Officer region and require funding for their club while the Starling Road Precinct undergoes capital works.
