PROSPECTIVE home buyers are facing their final opportunity to cash in on up to $27,000 in grants at Villa World’s Augustus community at Hervey Bay.
Fraser Coast Regional Council will close its $12,000 grant for those building a new home under the Building Better Regional Cities program on June 30 2016.
Local buyer Joanne Edgar purchased her first home at Augustus in March and said the assistance of the grants helped her buy new, a move she initially didn’t think possible.
“I wasn’t planning on buying a house for a few years, but when I looked into the grants available, I felt it was the right time to get on board,” she said.
“When you factor in the grants, you get a lot of house for your money and the value of buying new was greater than purchasing an older home.
“I was able to use the grants as part of my deposit so that made the process financially feasible.”
Augustus property consultant Ric King said a combination of the Council grant and the State Government’s $15,000 Great Start Grant for first home buyers had helped the developer gain traction with the local market.
“People are responding to the fact that these grants are ending soon,” he said.
“In the past six months prospective buyers have started to show more of a sense of urgency.
“We expect that trend to continue in the next six months as the Building Better Regional Cities program comes to a close.”
