St John Ambulance Victoria (St John) has been announced as the 2024 recipient of Carolina by AVID Property Group’s (AVID) community grant, bringing important education and training programs to the Deanside neighbourhood.
St John Victoria Chief Executive Officer Gordon Botwright said the grant will not only allow St John to expand into more communities, but also provide funding for their existing training and education programs, including CPRLab, a free, 10-minute CPR workshop.
“We are delighted to be the recipient of this grant as we keep striving towards our vision of ‘more lives saved’. These grants enable us to expand our reach, enhance training programs, and provide resources to communities.”
According to St John, cardiac arrest incidences are rising in Victoria but having CPR knowledge and training increases the chances of survival by over 200%.
“Everyone should be learning CPR, and CPRLab is an accessible way for people to be exposed to these skills. Carolina is a young community, with lots of new families who might not have done first aid training yet,” Mr Botwright said.
CPR Lab brings the education to participants, with their mobile van and team of experts providing fun and informative workshops all over the state.
AVID Victoria Acting General Manager Bruce Harper said the team are excited to be supporting this invaluable community service group, which has provided medical assistance to Victorians for over 141 years. “This group wholeheartedly embodies the AVID spirit of bringing people together for good and we are looking forward to seeing the fantastic educational benefits they bring to our Carolina residents and the surrounding community.”
Mr. Botwright said recognition from AVID in the form of the grant was an honour and highlighted the responsibility of developers. “AVID are creating new neighbourhoods for the fast-growing Victorian population, so it’s important that they are also investing in the health and safety of the communities they develop.
Supporting initiatives like CPR Lab demonstrates corporate social responsibility and builds a stronger, more resilient community.” During its decade of operation, AVID’s Sponsorships and Grants Program in Victoria has helped numerous local organisations, with past recipients including The Diggers Rest Football Netball Club, Melton Performing Arts, and the Caroline Springs Scout Group.
