When opportunity knocks
February 5, 2025 | IN Together Magazine | BY AVID | 3 min read
When the opportunity to work remotely came knocking, former Sydneysider Nicole Horan wasted no time chasing the Queensland sunshine for a new life in AVID’s Ormeau community, Amara.
While living with her brother on the Gold Coast when she first arrived, Nicole fully embraced the local atmosphere and coastal way of life before finding her permanent address at Amara in late 2023. Nicole’s move was an exciting time for the community, having just celebrated its one-year since launching to market and establishing itself as an up-and-coming community that people from all over flock to.
“I knew I wanted to live on the Gold Coast, and Amara was perfect as it offered a location halfway between friends on the Gold Coast, and Brisbane, where I might be needed in the office for work. Amenities are also important to me, so it was nice knowing I had the convenience of Ormeau Village down the road, with its selection of cafes and shops– not to mention the delicious food at the marina in Calypso Bay,” Nicole said.
“Growing up in Queensland made this new chapter all the more special, as I got to reconnect with friends and live close to my brother, who is only a short drive away in Jacobs Well. Interestingly, he introduced me to Amara, having bought a house by Villaworld Homes in Seabright, six years ago for himself.”
What distinguishes Amara from anywhere else is its exclusive boutique feel, with the neighbourhood limited to just 180 homes all built and designed by AVID’s award-winning building arm Villaworld Homes.
Nicole said there are many misconceptions around buying a house that can make it feel like an intimidating step, but the sales team at Amara guide you through every process and detail.
“I was terrified of the whole buying process, but as a first home buyer the journey at Amara was so easy and simple with one price, and I just had to sign the contract and move in.”
Relocating has turned out to be a game-changer for Nicole, whose fellow neighbours have become more like second family – with wine and cheese nights a regular outing in the neighbourhood.
“It was great to find a community where I felt like I really belonged, even with the sales team who were there every step of the way – from the initial consult to friendly encounters in the community.
“Everyone here is so welcoming and I have made some great friendships which sets this place apart from anywhere else I’ve lived before. We regularly enjoy wine time and talk about how to keep our lawns green. It’s a great community feel and a quiet neighbourhood.
“While my address feels like a private sanctuary, the comfort extends to knowing that I have my brother and friends close by who I can rely on.”
Fostering places where residents can truly belong is what has turned Amara into a thriving, connected address. From singles, to downsizers, and those in between – Amara is the perfect representation of close–knit community living, nestled in bushland surrounds and just moments away from Calypso Bay Marina, shops, services, and cafes.
