Achieving Full Bloom

The Bloomdale community in the charming Diggers Rest neighbourhood of outer Melbourne, has long had the motto, ‘life in full bloom’. Now, with the completion of all five of its community greenspaces and home to 4000 residents, the established neighbourhood has truly reached full bloom.
For long-term Bloomdale resident, Maurizio Rizzo, who first purchased his family home back in 2018, the community’s network of parks have played an unassuming yet important role in his time in the community.
Now, six years on, Maurizio and his wife are downsizing to a slightly smaller block still within Bloomdale and just across the street from the community’s most recently completed greenspace, Gecko Park.
“We like having plenty of space, but the kids have moved out now, so we wanted to build something more suitable.”
Although he’s downsizing, the Rizzo family have certainly established themselves in the Bloomdale community with his daughter moving into a home of her own within the neighbourhood two years ago, which she lives in with her teenage children.
“My daughter lives in one of the Nostra designed townhomes which are facing Flore Park, so we definitely like being close to those greener areas.”
As for how he uses the parks, Maurizio admits he’s played a few games of soccer with his grandkids.
“The grandkids love it, they’ll often just head to the parks to hang out with friends in the afternoons after school or work.”
While he dabbles in soccer, his favourite element of Bloomdale is the walking trails, which are in abundance, spanning over 40 kilometres.
“The walking trails are definitely my favourite, it’s just nice to head out for an evening stroll after work or on the weekends to go for a walk with my wife. Life is just more interesting with greenspaces.”
Maurizio and his family first moved to Bloomdale due to its small-town feeling.
“We had been living in the much larger Taylor’s Hill suburb nearby and it was just getting a bit chaotic, we wanted a bigger home at a better price, and we found that at Bloomdale. It was also still close to the freeway; it really made my work commute a lot easier each day.”
Beyond the convenient location, the people within the neighbourhood has been a major draw-card, leading Maurizio to become a return purchaser.
“There’s a really nice community feel, it’s just beautiful, why would you want to go anywhere else?”
In his free time, Maurizio is a keen cyclist and appreciates the convenience of cycling tracks beyond those within the residential community.
“I’m a cyclist and within the Diggers Rest suburb there are lots of biking tracks, so it just makes things easier, I don’t have to travel far to still enjoy a more scenic ride.”
