The Diggers Rest Football Netball Club (DRFNC) is expanding their team of champions, launching their first Senior Women’s Football Team with the support of AVID Property Group (AVID).

DRFNC President Ben Morse said the addition of the Senior Women’s Team will provide a much-needed opportunity for females aged 18 and over in the local area to get involved in team sport and continue with the game for years to come.

“Research shows that girls are just as likely as boys to play sport when they’re young, but participation rates drop considerably as they get older¹,” said Mr Morse.

“The Senior Women’s Team will provide our junior girls with a pathway to stay in the sport as they grow with the club in our community. It also allows us to welcome more women to the DRFNC and gives them another sport to play in addition to netball.”

Mr Morse said he would encourage anyone thinking of joining the women’s teams to visit the club and give the game a try.

“We are a very inclusive club, it’s all about getting in and having a go with your team. DRFNC is somewhere that everyone can go to play sport whilst enjoying the community environment,” said Mr Morse.

“There are many benefits to participating in team sport such as keeping healthy and active as well as socialising and getting to know other people in your area.”

Mr Morse said the sponsorship from AVID was vital to getting the Senior Women’s Team up and running to meet the needs of the growing community.

“We have already had interest in the team from various groups in the Diggers Rest area including our netballers, junior football team, spectators, daughters and partners of players,” said Mr Morse.

“The demand is there and the ongoing partnership with AVID has allowed us to make this dream a reality for the community and get more women out on the field.”

This will be the fifth year that the club has partnered with the national property developer and it’s local Bloomdale community to promote health and wellness throughout the local area.

AVID General Manager Victoria Peter Vlitas said the AVID team was excited to continue their support for another year, assisting to promote of health and wellness in the local community.

“AVID are passionate about bringing people together and fostering community spirit to create places that people love to belong,” Mr Vlitas said.

“We are proud to invest in a club that connects our community, forging ties between players and spectator’s alike.

“We are excited to see the Junior and Senior Women’s Teams flourish as the popularity of football in the local area continues to grow,” Mr Vlitas said.
