Building a Harmonious Community with Heart

May 24, 2023 | IN Together Magazine | BY AVID | 3 min read

Imagine you’ve been tasked with developing a community from the ground up. You’ve got your land, and it’s in an exceptional spot too – close to the beach, rainforests, schools, shopping, and medical practices. What other elements are needed to ensure people will want to live there… and to ensure it has soul?

We spoke to the masterminds behind AVID’s award-winning Harmony masterplanned community on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast to see how they brought their vision for a great community to life.

Situated between pearly white sands and lush green hinterland, you’ll find Harmony by AVID Property Group. True to its name, Harmony has all the heart of a village community with all the soul of beachside living. Better yet, residents here are just 20 minutes’ or so drive from popular cafés in Mooloolaba and the easy vibe of Maroochydore.

Harmony’s creators, AVID, said they wanted Harmony not only as the name for the village, but as a philosophy that was authentic in every sense of its meaning.

“Our vision was to create a unique and attractive urban design and to combine this with delivering the elements of community development that created and grew a sense of community and not just a place where people live. We wanted to deliver a community that genuinely stood apart in that aspect and became a model for place-making in new masterplanned developments,” said AVID Queensland General Manager Bruce Harper.

“Among the many landmark features of the community is a 5ha Grand Linear Park – an innovation that gives Harmony a unique identity, while also creating a major point of difference for home buyers.

“We started selling land at Harmony five years ago and today you’re hard pressed to find a block at Harmony that stays on the market long. Harmony was one of, if not Australia’s fastest growing communities in 2022.”

Mr Harper said some 40 per cent of the development was purposely reserved as greenspace by the developer before construction even began.

“Some 90 per cent of residents at Harmony are within 250 metres from a local park,” he said.

“I think Harmony’s design – with its tree-lined streets and countless parks for recreation – is perfect for families and helps people connect. Getting the family outdoors and active is easy and for older residents it means they can enjoy peaceful walks or exercise without the need to take the car out.

“Combine this with Harmony’s location close to worldfamous beaches and within easy reach of the major highway connecting the coast with Brisbane, this is a community that is so desirable to live in.”
