Coast new property hotspot for international migrants

February 1, 2019 | IN Media Release and News | BY AVID | 3 min read

More international migrants are choosing to settle in South-East Queensland than ever before, according to the 2018 Queensland population growth highlights and trends report released by The Queensland Government.

As the main contributor to population growth for Queensland, more than 31,000 people relocated to Queensland from international locations in 2016-17 – up 25 per cent (24,887) from the previous year 1

AVID Property Group General Manager Queensland Bruce Harper said the Sunshine Coast economy was strong and employment growth continued to outpace many other regions in Australia.

“Affordable housing, low unemployment, significant infrastructure investment and beautiful year-round sunshine – what’s not to love about the Coast?” Mr Harper said.

“The new health and airport infrastructure projects have really opened up the Sunshine Coast to both international visitors and a growing number of interstate migrants looking to take advantage not just of the Coast’s lifestyle but growing economy too.

“The Kawana hospital precinct – considered the largest in the Southern Hemisphere – has proven to be a magnet for health professionals as the state-of-the-art facilities continue to grow.”

Population increases from overseas and interstate migration has overtaken natural increase in the last two years in Queensland.

Nearly 90 per cent of Queensland’s population growth happened in the south-east corner of the state, with many of those choosing the Sunshine Coast.

Amy and Brendan Tobin moved to Australia from South Africa in 2014 before making Harmony – Palmview’s largest masterplanned community – their home in mid-2018

“We moved to Australia because we wanted to live in a safer country,” Mrs Tobin said.

“We’d visited the Sunshine Coast a couple of times on holidays and it is similar to South Africa with its long stretches of white sandy beaches.

“Australia is such a safe country – my children can walk to or from school if needed.”

Mrs Tobin said the proximity to schools and the University of the Sunshine Coast was one of the key reasons for choosing the area.

“Both the school and the university are just five kilometres away, so the girls will be able to walk or bike there when they get a little older,” Mrs Tobin said.

“Our oldest is 14 and it is nice to know she’ll be close by if she decides to go to the local university.”

This weekend, AVID will launch land release 9A in its Unity neighbourhood, with 26 new blocks of land available.

Catering to a variety of lifestyles and budgets, blocks in Unity release 9A range in size from 250m2 to 450m2 and start from just $228,500 for a 250m2 lot.
