New space makes fitness a walk in the park

Diggers Rest residents of all ages will now be able to reap the benefits of outdoor exercise with the announcement of a new fitness park at Bloomdale by AVID Property Group.
The park, which is almost 8,000m2, features a specially-designed ‘fitness circuit’– incorporating gym equipment and a generous running track – and a variety of play equipment for children.
CDA Design Group’s Landscape Architect Adam Pappas said the design of the park would cater for a wide range of users and tie in nicely with the existing aesthetics of Bloomdale.
“We steered away from traditional park designs to create a unique space that residents and locals could use as part of their fitness routine,” Mr Pappas said.
“A real point of difference is that the park not only caters for children, but also for the health and fitness needs of the entire community.”
The exercise equipment will include a series of pull up bars in a universal workout system, secured magnetic kettlebells, fitness bikes, a suspension trainer, and steps.
Studies have shown exercising outdoors helps reduce tension, anger and depression, as well as creating a ‘flow-on’ effect – the more people use the equipment, the more they want to use it again .
AVID Property Group General Manager Victoria Peter Vlitas said the new park would be perfect for people looking to make their health a bigger part of their everyday life.
“We want people to be able to enjoy this space for many years – they can play on the equipment as kids, kick the footy around as teenagers, and use the equipment as adults – this is our vision of the future,” Mr Vlitas said.
“This park continues to align with the master plan for Bloomdale, where barriers are broken down and community spaces are embraced.
“Essentially this will be one big backyard for the community.”
Along with the exercise equipment, the new park will include a barbecue, family-orientated space with play equipment for younger children, and a shelter with plenty of seating perfect for social gatherings.
Construction on the park has begun and it is expected to be open in January 2019.
